Saints Split Series with 3rd Ranked St. Thomas

The Saint Scholastica Saints baseball managed a split late on Monday night at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, MN. The Saints took game one in an extra-inning thriller by beating the Tommies 2-1 in 9 innings. Senior Jake Eiler had a tremendous game in game one by pitching eight shut-out innings and also by hitting a walk-off two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning with one out.

In the second game of the twin-billing the Tommies jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning off of starter Keith Ritsche. The Saints battled back to tie the game in the top of the second 4-4, but it was not mean't to be as the Tommies put up 3 more runs off of Ritsche in the bottom of the fourth inning to run up a 7-4 lead. The Saints put up 1 more run in the top of the fifth to bring the score to 7-5, but that was all of the offense the Saints could muster and Saints pitcher Joey Calaguire was able to shut-out the Tommies for the remaining 2.2 innings. Daryl Fuchihara and Kenny Kolquist had one RBI each while catcher Seth Harvey and a 3 RBIs to lead the Saints offensively. The Saints record fell to 3-1 on the season while the Tommies got back to .500 at 2-2.
