Saints Start Season Strong With 2 Dome Wins!

The Saint Scholastica Saints baseball team started the 2005 Season off strong with a pair of wins over Buena Vista University on Wednesday, March 2. Saints pitcher's Jake Eiler and Keith Ritsche each threw two hitters to pick up their first win's of the season.

In game one Senior Jake Eiler struck out eight Beavers through six innings of work while fellow Senior Kenny Kolquist provided some support at the plate. Kolquist went 2 for 4 with a homerun and a double while driving in two and scoring two. The rest of the offense in game one was picked up by centerfielder D.J. Lahti and third baseman Ryan Bruns who had two hits each. Eiler also had one hit and two RBIs while catcher Seth Harvey and first baseman Sean Tracy both had a hit and an RBI each. This left the final score at 8-1.

In the second game of the night's twin-billing Sophomore Keith Ritsche took the hill and struck out one while only allowing two hits in five innings of work. The offense for the Saints started slow, as they trailed 2-0 in the fourth inning. Then Tracy stepped up to the plate and tied the game with a two-run single. Lahti then put the Saints ahead for good in the fifth inning with an RBI single of his own. Sophomore Mark Moriarty came in for Ritsche in the sixth inning and threw two shut-out innings in which he struck out five of the seven batters he faced while picking up his first save of season.
