Saints Sweep Crown; Take On Tommies Today

The Saint Scholastica Saints baseball team swept Crown College on Saturday by beating the Storm 17-0 and 14-2 in a doubleheader at Wade Stadium in Duluth. In game one the Saints were led on the hill by sophomore pitcher Keith Ritsche who worked the first four innings, allowing only two hits to pick up the victory and run his record up to 5-1 on the season. Ritsche was relieved on the mound by Ryan Bruns who worked the final three innings of shutout ball to complete the Saints 10th shutout of the season, now only three back of the NCAA Division III record of 13.

The Saints were led at the plate by Chad Weiss, who singled and homered, Kyle Rizzi, who had two hits and three RBIs, Sean Tracy, who had three hits and four RBIs, Blake Eller, who had two hits and two RBIs, Seth Harvey, who had two hits and scored to runs, and by Kenny Kolquist, who had two hits and scored two runs.

In game two the Saints were led Ryan Bruns, who had two RBIs, and freshman Mike Lewis, who had three RBIs. Both Bruns and Lewis also had three hits. Adding two hits each for the Saints in game two were Jake Eiler, who had two RBIs, Kenny Kolquist, who scored two runs, and Brandon Swartz, who scored two runs.

The Saints extended their winning streak to 22 straight wins and upped their record to 25-2 overall and 13-0 in the UMAC. The Storm fell to 5-22 overall and 3-10 in the UMAC. The Saints will take their show on the road today for a 1:00 PM game against the St. Thomas Tommies in St. Paul.
